This night we have reached a new record in diamond levitation at the highest vacuum so far! We feedback cool the translational motion of the particle and reach stable levitation at <5×10^-7mbar, only limited by the chamber’s current base pressure.
This demonstration represents a significant milestone, as it shows that heating of diamond particles
in high vacuum is not a fundamental obstacle, contrary to earlier observations.
